What it does

Because it’s built into Gmail itself, it’s the natural first option to check for Gmail users before paying for a third-party AI email tool — though it doesn’t go as deep as dedicated products on automation, CRM integration, or cross-platform triage. Google has continued expanding these features through 2026, including a more assertive “AI Inbox” filtering layer aimed at surfacing only the messages that matter.

Since January 2025, Gemini AI features have been included in Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus plans at no additional per-feature cost. As of July 2026, Workspace list pricing (billed annually) runs from about $14/user/month for Business Standard to roughly $30/user/month for Enterprise Plus, and individual Gmail users can add Gemini access through a Google AI subscription starting at $7.99/month for Google AI Plus.

Privacy & security notes

Google states that Gemini in Google Workspace apps comes with enterprise-grade data protections: submissions are not reviewed by humans or used to train models, and interactions stay within the customer's organization. This protection does not extend to personal (non-Workspace) Gmail accounts on a Google AI subscription — by default, those consumer-account conversations can be reviewed by human raters and used to improve Google's models unless the user turns off Gemini Apps Activity in their Google Account settings, which also deletes stored chat history.
